Coney Island Mermaid Parade Highlights

I feel so fortunate to live in Brooklyn and have Coney Island as my summer playground! Every year I try to get to the Mermaid Parade, and while this year was almost a washout due to torrential rain, the mermaids and sea creatures could not be stopped. What self-respecting mermaid is gonna let a little water stop them? Here are some highlights of my best Mermaid shots over the years. Enjoy!

Change the crop, change the feel . . .

Corporate headshots can take on a whole new feel depending on the way they’re cropped. See examples of this in action.

When photographing clients I like to leave a bit of space around them so I have options when it's time to crop. As you can see from the following examples, a photo can look traditional or modern depending on where the subject is placed in the open space. Take this into consideration when choosing the look for your company, and then stay consistent when selecting photos for employee profiles.

Sleeping Baby Portraits

When I was pregnant and hatching the plan to quit the corporate world and focus on portrait photography full-time I thought, "How tough can it be to have a baby? They eat, sleep and poop. I'll have all the time in the world to start my baby photography business!" I soon discovered that newborns do do all of those things, but they must be cajoled to do two out of three of those things. Patience is a virtue and I have really learned to just go with the flow - the resulting photos are worth the wait!

(Don't be confused by the "Brooklyn Photography" logo on the prints, Brooklyn Photography is the site I dedicate to newborn and child portrait photography, but I wanted to share the photos here as well! Please visit www.brooklynphotography.com to see more!)

And the 2015 Oscar for Best Picture goes to . . .

Congratulations to Tom McCarthy for directing "Spotlight" which won the Oscar for "Best Picture 2015." I finally had the guts to watch the film and I highly recommend it to everyone. It's a disturbing subject, but not graphically presented.

While looking for these photos of Tom I had taken a couple of years back, I decided, as a Boston native myself, to do a quick little search to see if any priests I had contact with as a child would show up on 'the boogie man' list. I honestly didn't expect to find anything, so to have discovered that I have been in the presence of pedophiles at the only three churches I have ever been affiliated with from birth through 8th grade was quite disorienting.

"Father" Anthony J Laurano - Sacred Heart Church - Roslindale -1966-1975 (where I was baptized, made my first holy communion, mandatory weekly church service, etc.)

Emmett O'Brien - Children's choir director at St. John Chrysostom Church in West Roxbury - 1968-1974 (briefly sang in this choir in early 70's)

to the wonderful "Father" Thomas Ward from Our Lady of Presentation in Brighton, MA where I went to school from 6th - 8th grade when/where I was "confirmed."

To say my head is spinning is an understatement!

Lighten up!

Corporate headshots don’t have to be stuffy and stiff. Have some fun, relax and let your personality shine through. Hiring the right photographer will guarantee great results!

Getting pictures taken is right up there with public speaking for many people. It produces lots of anxiety - I get it. Everyone is their own worst critic. Getting people to relax and "get out of their heads" is my job as a photographer, so I do my best to keep the session light and fun. Below are several outtakes from "serious" headshot sessions. See? It's not all that bad after all! Set up an appointment and let's work together to get this done!
